The Best Back to School Movies

For Young Kids…

There’s a long list of school themed movies to choose from for younger boys and girls such as Diary of a Wimpy Kid, Coco, Moana, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, or their favorite Disney film. If you watch Akeelah and the Bee, you can pause the movie to host a mini spelling bee to start preparing them for school.

For Tweens…

The tweens will find Avenger’s, Marvel movies, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, and Back to the Future, engaging, making them look forward to the fun they have once they go back to school. Get them up on their feet for a sing and dance along with the cast of High School Musical – even if they don’t want to admit they know all the words and dance moves!

For a More Mature Crowd…

For the teens and the more mature crowd, Mean Girls, Bring It On, 10 Things I Hate About You, Clueless, Jaws and classic Breakfast Club will make the crowd long to be back to school in the halls with friends.

Oh wait, now it is.

With the LED Dive In Movie package from Ultimate Outdoor Movies, it’s simple to plan a movie night where people can mingle. Even if your building has tried other social activities without much success, this is better:

Meeting Neighbors is Easy

Do you feel a little guilty when you see flyers for potluck dinners and other events put up by individual residents or the building manager? You’d like to support the cause, but you don’t want to buy an expensive party platter or spend hours preparing a big dish. With our movie nights, all you do is provide the film and an electric outlet.

It’s Scalable

It can be scary to organize an event if you’re worried about how many people will show up. With a movie night you can make a success out of any size group. While the Dive In package is designed to be poolside, you can also show a movie on your rooftop or in your community room.

It Could be a Series

Don’t like the pressure of coming up with new apartment event ideas for getting together? Everyone loves a series, especially when you’re showing popular outdoor movies.

If you want neighbors who will invite you to their parties and watch your cat when you go away for the weekend, start planning your own LED Dive In Movie night. Contact us for more information or ask your building management to do it.

What is National Night Out?

Neighborhoods across the United States host National Night Out block parties, parades, and get-togethers every year on the first Tuesday in August. (In Texas, it’s celebrated on Tuesday October 2nd.) The event was started in 1984 to bring communities together, create partnerships with law enforcement, and focus on crime prevention. Last year, more than 38 million Americans from all 50 states participated.

Pick a Location

Think about the best place to hold your National Night Out outdoor movie party. Popular options are local parks, spacious yards, parking lots, or even on a quiet residential street. Make sure to check with your city or county to see if you need to obtain any permits.

Who Should You Invite?

• First, you’ll want to spread the word in your neighborhood. Pass out flyers, promote the party on social media, post on online calendars and community forums, send emails, and make phone calls. Talk to your next-door neighbors and ask them to invite their immediate neighbors – and so on and so on. Make sure to register your event on the National Night Out website.
• Invite your local police, fire, emergency, and military officials. National Night Out is a great opportunity for residents to mingle with officers in a relaxed setting. See if police or firefighters can offer safety tips, perform a demonstration, or show a public safety video before the movie. The fire department may even be able to bring a fire truck – a major kid magnet!
• Reach out to elected officials and community leaders to see if they can stop by. Start with your mayor and city council members, state representatives, school board members and neighborhood leaders. They’ll often jump at the chance to schmooze with their constituents.

What’s for Dinner?

How are you going to feed the hungry masses? Recruit volunteers to grill up burgers and brats, or throw a potluck dinner and assign neighbors to bring an appetizer, main dish, or dessert based on their street or last name. For refreshments, serve lemonade, ask local businesses to donate water or soda, or have attendees bring coolers stocked with their favorite beverages. Ultimate Outdoor Movies can even pop up fresh popcorn to munch on during the movie.

It’s Showtime!

Ultimate Outdoor Movies offers inflatable movie screen rentals for any crowd, so you’ll be sure to have the right size for your party. They can also help you find the best family-friendly flick to show at National Night Out. Their friendly professionals will take care of all the logistics, so you’ll have time to chat it up with the neighbors before and after the movie.

Before the event, remind moviegoers to bring lawn chairs or blankets to relax on while watching the film. Start the movie about 15 minutes after sundown to make sure it’s dark enough. Then grab a bag of popcorn, find a comfy spot, and enjoy!

Build Community

Hosting an outdoor movie event can build community. It can easily be turned into a fundraising event for a cause your sorority or fraternity feels passionate about. These can be finding solutions for homelessness or raising money for education and research for children with cancer.

Putting on such an event can improve leadership and planning skills. It’s also a great opportunity to recruit potential new members. Putting on such an event also helps your fraternity or sorority grow closer together. You will be working together to make the event a success!

Change Perceptions

Community members and neighbors, especially those who are not members of the sorority or fraternity, can be invited to the event to form stronger ties to the community and the student body of the university. Getting to know your organization through community events such as an outdoor movie can help to change common perceptions of sororities and fraternities, and it can be a great networking event for your organization.

You can even host a tailgate event in conjunction with the drive-in movie, and plan community activities for your guests, such as face painting for kids or a chili contest. This will help solidify your place in the community and build your reputation as community leaders with the university.

You can also host a tailgate party with live television coverage of your college football team when they are playing an away game to show your school spirit!

For more information on how to put on an outdoor movie or television event, contact us. We offer screens for any event and have all the equipment needed for an exciting drive-in movie experience!

It goes without saying that you’ll want any number of photographs for your wedding. These will be memories to be preserved forever, after all. The ceremony, the bridesmaids, the cake, the dress… Standard practice is to hire a photographer. That will probably be fine for the nice, scripted ceremony but what about during the reception? A photographer is bound to miss out on capturing some of your guests; he can only be in one place at a time and receptions can get pretty crazy. You’ll want to be sure and get pictures of everyone and chasing them all down really isn’t an option.

Photo Booth

Placing a photo booth at the reception will ensure every guest can show their support for the happy couple. There is a photo strip for them to take home and a copy that will go into a digital album for you.

In fact, your guests may be having such a blast with your photo booth you won’t need to ask them to get their pictures taken!

A photo booth is more than just another way to be sure you get all the pictures you want. It’s also a lot of fun! You can get all kinds of photo booth add-ons for your event. Personalized props like mustaches or pirate hats to fit your theme, hashtag printing, and social media sharing. There is also themed backdrops, personalized photo strips for each guest to take home, and even a digital Photo Booth scrapbook for them all to sign! If you contact Ultimate Outdoor Entertainment for one of their Flixxr and get one of their Signature Packages, they’ll turn it into an actual scrapbook to hold onto!  Best of all, by hiring a professional provider you’ll be able to relax and enjoy the reception, knowing that this potential headache, at least, has been taken care of.

A photo booth is a simple way to get your pictures taken, share fun photo strips and stored online for easy retrieval after the big event. They can even be shared on social media without any hassle for the bride and groom. It also doubles as a really fun attraction for your guests. This is a win-win addition for any wedding reception.

Check out this link for more detailed information about photo booth packages and how they can ramp up your wedding reception.

Outdoor Movie Experience

An ultimate outdoor movie experience can be just what your place of worship needs. It will get people excited about your organization. Instead of the tried-and-true potluck dinner, invite members and prospective members of your congregation out for an evening of entertainment under the stars with a giant inflatable movie screen. Mom and Dad can relax and unwind a bit while the kids stay entertained. And with movie screen screen rental sizes to fit any location and audience size and helpful technicians on hand during the event, Ultimate Outdoor Movies makes the whole process easy.

Choosing a Movie

That leaves religious leaders with only one decision—what movie to show. Consider focusing on movies relevant to a theme you’ve covered in sermons or a Sunday School class. For churches looking to attract new members, a good choice might be a movie popular with folks under thirty since they’re often the group least likely to attend church each week, according to the Pew Research Center.

Now is the perfect time to create your own outdoor theater movie event, too; the weather is warming up, the frenzy of Easter events has passed, and Christmas is a long way off. Many religious organizations have programs like Vacation Bible School coming up. An outdoor movie can be a perfect addition to those events with an amazing blow up movie screen.

An outdoor movie provides the perfect opportunity to showcase what your church has to offer. A welcoming spirit is one of the key aspects found amongst growing churches today, and a relaxed evening outside watching a movie with soon-to-be friends can help build that all-important sense of community. Drive-in Movie Theater

This is a fun idea for kids that love race cars and have a need for speed! We offer inflatable screens of all sizes, so we can accommodate any crowd. A fun idea for this birthday party is to have the kids create race cars out of cardboard boxes and then park them in front of the big screen. Picture it. Rows of little cardboard box cars parked drive-in style in front of the big screen. You can offer drive-in snacks like hot dogs, nachos, and candy! What better movie to show than Disney’s Cars or The Fast and the Furious?

A Day at the Pool

Pool parties are a blast, but they can be even better with a big screen! Have the kids grab pool tubes and float in the pool while they watch their favorite movie. This is a unique movie night for sure and if you buy pool floats with cup holders, they will give the kids a chance to lay back and relax while they watch their favorite movie in style. If you want to keep the water theme you can play Finding Nemo, Finding Dory, or even Jaws if the kids are feeling brave.

Sing-Along Party

If you have kids that are natural born performers, then a sing-along party is perfect. There are a lot of possibilities with this theme because you can hook up a karaoke machine to our inflatable screens and make karaoke night bigger and better. If you want to do the sing-along party, but don’t want to get a karaoke machine, you can always play a movie that includes a sing-along version. Some popular movies that do this are High School Musical, Grease, and of course, Frozen.

Superhero Costume Party

Whether your child loves DC or Marvel, they will love a superhero theme costume party! It gives them an opportunity to dress up as their favorite superhero and hang out with all of their friends. There are so many superhero movies out there to choose from like The Avengers, The Incredibles, or Batman v. Superman! When planning these parties, don’t forget to include movie extras like popcorn!

A Stroll Down Memory Lane

This theme is perfect for older kids because the big screen will offer a great platform to display a video montage of photos and videos of the birthday boy or girl. If your son or daughter is celebrating their sweet 16, this memory lane theme is a great choice for their party. A great idea is to create a slideshow of memories using photos, videos, and their favorite music to show party guests and celebrate highlights of their life. This is a great idea for kids of any age, even those celebrating a milestone birthday!

Once you choose the birthday party theme, it’s time to choose the size of your inflatable movie screen. This will depend on your guest list. If you expect a small crowd of fewer than 75 people we recommend the backyard movie screen, but if you’re expecting a huge turnout of up to 1,000 guests then our epic movie screen will do the trick! We have these screen sizes and tons in between to accommodate any party. If you want some more movie event party ideas, we have plenty of inspiration. Feel free to contact us today for all of your inflatable movie screen rental needs!

Sell Movie Tickets

The most obvious fundraising opportunity is, of course, selling tickets. People buy tickets to watch movies at indoor theaters, and won’t bat an eye at purchasing tickets for an outdoor movie screening. Especially if the cost is slightly lower than the $13 or so that the indoor theaters charge. You can sell tickets either at the door, or presale tickets. You can also give people a discount for a group purchase, to encourage a large audience–after all, with outdoor movies, the more the merrier!

Request Donations

You can ask for donations instead of naming a ticket price–either presale or at the door, or during intermission. For instance, having volunteers walk around the crowds before the movie can be a great way to increase visibility and encourage attendees to donate.

Sponsorships and On-Screen Recognition

Contact local businesses and organizations and ask if they would be willing to donate money in exchange for having their business or organization featured during your event–perhaps giving out free pens and small giveaways with their logos printed on them, or through on-screen advertising which will play before the movie begins.

Sell Raffle Tickets

Before your movie event, collect silent raffle items–throw together a movie-lovers’ basket, or get donations from local individuals or businesses who want to support your organization, and then sell raffle tickets before and during the movie event (not while the movie is playing, of course). At the end of the movie, you can say a few words about your organization, select the raffle winners, and send everyone home happy and eager for the next movie night and another chance to win.

Have a Concession Stand

Popcorn, cotton candy, cookies, candy, and soft drinks are all popular movie snacks. But you can also be creative with your concession stand, selling alternative foods (gluten-free cupcakes? Veggie wraps?) and mementos such as T-shirts or mugs with your organization logo prominently featured on them. Not only will you make money, it will remind movie watchers of your organization and encourage trust and loyalty between you and your patrons.

Picnic Dinners

Another option is to turn the movie into an entire picnic dinner event. Hire a caterer, order pizzas, or bust out some grills and start flipping burgers and hot dogs to sell for a set price. Picnics are a great way to get family and friends together. What better way to spend a clear outdoor evening than with a picnic than a movie?

Outdoor movies are fun and interesting, and a great way to bring people together–all fantastic characteristics of an effective fundraiser. Moreover, unlike a car wash or a bake sale, movie nights provide a myriad of opportunities. Clever and creative minds can come up with fundraising ideas, including but not limited to the suggestions above. For more information on fundraising concepts and how to set up your own movie night, remember to contact us.

So grab the popcorn and your cash box–the movie’s starting!
